What will happen in the recovery period?

You may have bruising and swelling around the eyes, which lasts for 1 to 2 weeks. A little bleeding is common in the early days after surgery and you may be asked not to blow your nose for a week or so to allow the tissues to heal. By the end of one week, all dressings, splints, and stitches should be removed. You will have frequent follow-up visits in the months after surgery to check on your progress.

Every patient and case is different so no definite time scale for recovery can be given. However, most Rhinoplasty patients are up and about within a couple of days after surgery, and are able to return to work after just a week. Your surgeon may recommend that you take 10 to 14 days off from work.

Preparing for your Nose Surgery

Dr. will give you specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medications. Carefully following these instructions will help your surgery go more smoothly. If you are a smoker, its important to stay away from smoking for at least two weeks before and after the surgery; smoking inhibits blood flow to the skin, and can interfere with healing.

Rhinoplasty usually takes an hour or two, though complicated procedures may take longer.
